Wergar in his wolfish form

King Wergar was the king of Lyssia, the last of the Grey Wolves, the first husband of Queen Amelie and the father of Drew Ferran. His betrayal and death was the catalyst for the events of the series. He was considered by his friends to be a man of conviction, and by his enemies to be a brute and a warmonger. He was particularly close friends with Duke Henrik, Duke Manfred, Baron Huth, and, in particular, Duke Bergan and Baron Griffyn highly regarded Wergar.

When word reached King Wergar that King Faisal planned to make Omir a seperate nation, Wergar quickly rallied his army for war. The campaign against Faisal and the Jackallords would prove to be Wergar's last as king, as the Werelion Leopold took the oportunity to take over the Wolfs castle in Westland, holding his family hostage. By the time King Wergar returned, Bergan was ordered to convince Wergar to surrender, for the sake of his family.

The Wolf was chained and brought into the castle, and, surrounded by his former subjects, he was betrayed and beheaded, and all but one of his children were murdered. Leopold took Wergar's wife, Amelie, for his own, and mutilated Baron Griffyn, the Werehawk lord of Windfell. Additionally, Leopold exiled the Hawklords, and gave Windfell to a lone Hawklord.

While not much is know about Wergar's appereance, what is know is what his son looked like; from this we can deduce that Wergar was above average height, with a muscular, though not enormous frame, with black hair and dark eyes. He had sharp features and wore a sturmish steel ring on his presumably left hand, a wedding present.

Personality[]

Wergar was a complicated figure, and not much was known about him. According to eyewitnesses, he lived in a black and white world, and it seemed that opinions of him followed the same line of logic. He had the ability to inspire friendship and respect in all of his friends; the Hawklords, White Bears, and Whitewolves fought with him until the bitter end, and those who betrayed him felt the guilt in shame for the rest of their lives. However, his enemies, such as Leopold, Baron Skeer, and Faisal referred to him as a brute who ruled through fear. Wergar also supposedly either had a sense of humor or was extremely blunt about what he thought, refering to the 5 rat brothers as "the rat king." Griffyn called him "a hard man, stubborn, hotheaded, and as tough as Sturmish Steel."

Additionally, Wergar was feared in battle, both as a warrior and as a strategist. He was a genius in the use of his men to their best ability, as seen by how he is one of two forces to ever breach Azra's walls(without blasting powder) and how Leopold, a skilled warrior himself, waited until Wergar was weakened and occupied to strike and until he was chained and helpless to be near him. Frost spoke of Wergar in casual, but respectful tones, calling him "fearsome." Additionally, Wergar had mastered the use of the moon, allowing him to gain greater strength when the moon was full.
